River Wensum
The first absolute must for Norwich is to experience a peaceful trip down the River Wensum. You can experience the sites of the city whilst relaxing on the cushions on the traditional punt as you move peacefully through the water. Learn the history of the city from your guide at locations like Pull’s Ferry and St James’ Mill. You could even book a special tour with roses and chocolates with your loved one for an extra romantic feel.
Elm Hill
A captivating experience. It is without a doubt one of the city’s biggest attractions. Obscure shops and small cafe’s are surrounded in Tudor, timber framed buildings along an authentic medieval cobbled street.
Colman’s Mustard Shop & Museum
It doesn’t matter if you aren’t even a fan of mustard, this is a place that’s definitely worth a visit while you’re in the city. Colman’s has a heritage in Norfolk over 200 years old and today you can discover its history at the shop and museum housed in the Royal Arcade, including memorabilia, pots, spoons and other quirky gifts.
Biddy’s Tea Room
If you fancy a refreshing cup of tea on your day out be sure to visit Biddy’s Tea Room. As well as a traditional tearoom offering tea in beautiful china cups and saucers, you are surrounded by bunting, armchairs and many choices of cake – they are very passionate about their tea!
Sainsbury Centre
If you’re an art lover be sure to visit the Sainsbury Centre in the grounds of the University of East Anglia which is located in the acres of countryside near the river. It features modern art originally donated by Lord and Lady Sainsbury, even including works of Pablo Picasso.
The Old Skating Rink Gallery
Created 30 years ago near The Forum and market placeto showcase Asian influenced art. You can find large, obscure and affordable decorative furnishing and clothes tailored to many tastes, but based on the traditional skills of crafts men and women in communities from Turkey and the East of Java. It also houses the South Asian Decorative Arts and Crafts Collection, a large range of arts and crafts based on the everyday cultures of South Asia.
Plantation Garden
The three-acre Grade II English Heritage registered garden is one of Norwich’s greatest gems. There you can find large gothic fountains, lawns, flower beds, Italianate terrace, woodland walkways, 10 metre long Victorian-style greenhouse, a rustic bridge and a Medieval terrace wall.
The garden provides a habitat for various wildlife, making it an area of peace and tranquillity. Despite it being dubbed the Secret Garden, it’s quite easy to find near the Roman Catholic Cathedral on Earlham Road.
