How To Enhance Your Garden Using Gravel

Gravel is formed when fast moving water and weather erodes large boulders and small pebbles are produced. These rock fragments can be between 4 and 64mm in size. You can often see pile up of gravel at the edge of waters sometimes leaving large heaps that eventually can form sedimentary rock called conglomerate.

Where there is a shortage or in places wheter there is not a natural gravel build up, gravel can be produced by the crushing of hard wearing rocks to meet a variety of building and gardening needs.

Gravel has been used extensibely around the world you can find many roads that are paved with gravel – both natural and man-made – and in this article we will talk to you about using this product to enhance the look of your garden.

So what are the benefits of using gravel in your garden? There are quite a few benefits so we have listed them easily for you below.

Using gravel in landscaping is not a new idea. Gardens during the 1970s used gravel as a solution against drought. However, gravel has become more and more popular due to the following reasons:

  • Sturdy With A Natural Feel:

Gravel looks and feels very natural but sis durable enough to use on paths, driveways and other areas in your garden and outside spaces. There are heavier duty products that you could use but they are not quite as organic and bricks and paving does not make that lovely crunch under your feet.

  • Weather Friendly Wherever You Are:

For patches of soil that can’t be planted due to dry conditions or drought, gravel is an excellent choice for covering these and looking nice. Or in wetter regions gravel has quick drainage so garderners love the fact that their beloved geraniums won’t end up in a muddy puddle.

  • Flexible:

Gravel can be used for adding aesthetic appeal to dull areas of your garden or can be used to divide separate areas of your outside space. For parts that have a high level of traffic gravel can be used to cover or can create an appealing section for your flowerbeds. Gravel also looks great outside both modern and traditional homes.

  • Easy to look after:

A gravel garden can thrive minus the frequent watering and tedious maintenance and that is why more and more gardeners are turning to this flexible product. In a world where the majority of people have busier and busier lives less time having to maintain your garden can only be a good thing.

  • Affordable:

Gravel is very cost-effective and can be provided by aggregate companies easily supplying you with as much as you need at a price you will love. Some companies even have a gravel calculator which helps you to identify the amount you need for your garden project.

Please note that not all gravel products are created equal. They differ in size, texture, and best uses. Some work great as walking surfaces while other varieties best serve decorative purposes.
