1. Solid Stone Siding

This type of cladding has been in exterior surfacing projects from the last hundreds of years, with benefits of superior durability and of the authentic look of naturally occurring stone. Apart from these significant benefits, it was from these that the technology to reproduce them began.  Of course, there were some innovations that came from the drawbacks of solid stone siding and that also sparked innovation. The problems of excessive weight of the stone, and the labor-intensive harvesting of solid stone, brought about a requirement of alternatives in order to reduce costs of shipping, and to reduce the time it takes to complete a given project.

2. Manufactured Stone Wall Cladding

When choosing an alternative to a product, the existing one should not be hampered in terms of its durability. What is required of any alternative to a naturally occurring material is minimizing some of its limitations. Often known as cultured stone, manufactured stone does this. Manufactured or more commonly named, engineered stone such as quartz, Neolith or Dekton, are created through the use of molds that replicate the look of real stone. When used as siding casts, the individual cement ‘stones’ are used to create a new type of stone siding that is installed in a similar way, but it weighs less, and therefore costs a bit less to ship.

3. Polyurethane-Based Foam Panel ‘Stone’ Siding

Panel sliding, also called faux stone, is a very lightweight alternative to real stone. It is made up of densely rendered polyurethane, which makes it this light. This type of stone-like siding is created to be installed in panels, and not by on a stone-by-stone basis. Therefore, its installation is straightforward. It is weather-resistant for long-term use.

4. Natural Stone Cladding

This variety of natural stone siding is offered cut-to-size units from larger slabs. One of its popular types of cladding is derived from granite, marble or limestone slabs. There is a wide variety of natural stones that are a very dense variety and that also resists cracking. This results in those types of stone, which allow moisture penetration that makes many types of stone to be susceptible to freeze-thaw cycles.

5. Stone Veneer Wall Cladding

This type of wall cladding seems to be a culmination of all of the above choices. These are derived from real stone. The panel systems of many varieties of natural stone veneer siding are designed to seamlessly click together like puzzle pieces.
