How To Create Your Own Home Gym

Creating a home gym can be very satisfying but it can be expensive in some cases. It is also good for people who struggle with social anxiety. Home gyms are a great way to complete your solo workouts, without worrying about bumping into anybody and waiting for the machines.

With your home gym, you need to ensure you have the right equipment and it keeps you motivated. The lack of gym equipment can be demotivating however, if you have machines that cover most bases, it will keep you motivated.

With a home gym, you don’t need to worry about the commute to the gym which can put some people off from working out. All you need to do is put on your gym clothes and start working out in the comfort of your home.

If you don’t know where to start when making your home gym then you have come to the right place.

Pick A Spacious Spot In Your Home

When making your home gym, you need to create space so if you have a room big enough for your home gym, empty it and create even more room.

If you don’t have a room large enough for your gym equipment then consider transforming your back garden into a home gym. You can put a shelter over a certain space in your garden or consider a garden room purposefully built for a gym. Luxury garden rooms can be transformed into anything you like however, during COVID-19, they became popular so people didn’t miss out on their workouts.

If you don’t have enough space in your gym, it can be very demotivating because you don’t have the space you require. If you can’t fit a gym in your home then consider the back garden. Don’t waste your money on squeezing gym equipment into a small box room.

Pick Your Home Gym Equipment

The next stage of creating your home gym is to choose the equipment. Depending on the type of workouts you will be doing, you may require equipment different from the usual gym apparatus. Also, pick gym equipment for unique exercises for your workout to help stay motivated.

Cardio Gym Equipment

If your fitness goals are to lose weight, there are different types of machines you need. For example, a treadmill would be great to have, especially if you don’t enjoy running in public. However, if you do enjoy running outside, consider other machines such as a step climber, rowing machine or cross trainer. All of these are good for helping you improve your fitness.

Skipping ropes and resistance bands are also great additions including ankle weights. For comfortable workouts on the gym floor then purchase a gym mat.

Strength Gym Training

Strength equipment is very different from cardio equipment. The best equipment for this would be a bench or free weights. Dumbbells racks can be very expensive however a product that is very much on trend is adjustable dumbbells. These are great for reducing the space in your room. Other equipment you can purchase includes medicine balls, a barbell rack and a bench.

Equipment For Recovery

A common mistake that many gym goers make is that they don’t amke time for warm-ups and cool-down sessions. It’s these small adjustments that help with muscle recovery which is why you must have the right equipment for that. In terms of muscle recovery equipment, it won’t be that expensive. Yoga mats will help make your hard flooring soft. Then you need a foam roller to help with reducing muscle soreness. You can also have a trigger point ball to target specific body parts to help relieve knots or other tight areas.

Start By Creating The Space

Once you know what space you must use in your home and know which equipment you will be using, it is time to start getting creative with your room. This is the stage where you need to start creating your room. Don’t just go for boring decoration. Find things that will keep you motivated.

Wall Mirrors

Wall mirrors are something that you can buy for your home gym. These must be full-length so you can watch your form in the mirror. Either buy a vertical mirror or get a large mirror that covers most of the wall. Remember, the bigger the mirror, the more expensive it will be so be careful with this.

Create A Motivating Space

Don’t try to pick boring wall colours for your gym. Consider items that will keep you motivated during your workout. This could be anything such as wall art of your favourite athletes. It can also be inspirational quotes. Whatever it is, you need to make sure that it will keep you going. Create a welcoming but motivating environment to help you enjoy your workouts.

Storage and Organisation

The next thing you can do for your gym room is to ensure it is always clean and organised. If you are doing your workouts in an untidy gym, it can be demotivating and put you off your future workouts.

Free weights and other individual pieces of equipment should have their own area. If they don’t then these weights can be here, there and everywhere. Some may even get lost, depending on the equipment.

Keeping your gym clean is essential. Not just to keep you motivated but to ensure your workout is safe. The last thing you want to do is cause yourself an injury because then your home gym won’t be used at all.

Cleaning gym equipment is simple. All you need is a wipe once you have finished your workout to just go over the equipment you have used. Additionally, once your equipment is cleaned, ensure you put it away safely.

To Conclude

Investing in a home gym can be very expensive although it will be worth the money, especially if you get a lot of use out of it. This equipment can be used for months if not years so make sure you take care of it. Ensure you put it away once you have used and cleaned the equipment.

Take care of your home gym when you are using it but also when you’re not using it. If you have chosen a garden studio for your gym then ensure the exterior is looked after. Damage can occur with fallen debris outside causing water damage. Then you will need a water damage restoration company to fix it. Leaving water in your gym studio will just cause further damage including mould. This will make you not want to workout anymore so ensure you take care of your gym room.
