The Investment bank is a financial institution which assists the companies, corporate, individual and government in mergers and acquisitions, raising capital, market making, trading of derivatives, equities, securities, fixed income and commodities.
There are Two Types of Investment Banking:
- Sell side – involves in the trading securities for cash or promotion of securities.
- Buy side – involves in the buying investment services like funds, life insurance companies and mutual funds.
On account of organizational structure, the investment banking is splitting into the back office, middle office and front office activities. Investment banking comprises in two parts as origination and execution.
Origination requires the understanding of client needs, and industry business and market environment, and financial and risk management, while Execution starts once the client signs on the investment bank to convert in a successful deal.
The courses in investment banking are available in India at certificate, diploma, UG degree and PG degree level. The security analysis, portfolio management, stock and bond trading, endorsement of securities, broker – dealer operation management, investment banking and equity research are some of the specializations in this field.
For admission in the training course of investment banking and equity research for duration of 10 weeks, you must be 12th passed.
For the admission to UG degree programme and the PG programme you do not need to appear any entrance examination. The students only have to appear in a group discussion and an interview round.
It is a good field in account of remuneration. A fresher can get Rs. 20000 to 30000 per month depends on the employer and the expertise of the candidate.
