Are you one of those candidates who is on the verge of completing standard XII and aspiring to get into the prestigious IIT? If yes, this post is for you. Every second student in India wants to be a successful engineer and for a successful engineering aspiration, a renowned institution is required. So, if you are done with your XII board examinations, get yourself geared up for a thorough revision of the subjects. The JEE is an objective type question set and hence selective study should be avoided. Exhaustive revision of the theories and concepts is mandatory to get through the gates called JEE.
Pay attention to your weak points
While preparing for your board examinations and JEE examinations, you must have noticed the areas where you are not very comfortable. If you are habituated of marking important points in your coaching classes, it is indeed a very good practice. Since now the boards are over, you may try to glance through the important points you have marked. Pay special attention to all those points you think you are weak.
Some specific topics to be covered
It is rather impossible to cover the whole syllabus of JEE in just a few weeks. For this purpose, it will be wise if at least these topics from the CBSE class for 12 syllabus are thoroughly revised.
- CBSE class XII Physics
- Classical Mechanics
- Electrostatics
- Current Electricity
- Waves and Oscillations
- Heat and Thermodynamics
- Mathematics
- Coordinate Geometry
- Differential and Integral Calculus
- Vectors
- Probability
- Complex Numbers
- Chemistry
- Chemical Kinetics
- Equilibrium
- Heat and Thermodynamics
- Coordination Compounds
- Salt Analysis
- Organic Chemistry, specially the named reactions.
Slogging is not the solution
If you are a serious aspirant, believe in yourself. Just few days before the examination, it is not a good practice to stay overnight and revise the topics. Keep in mind that you must do regular revision and practice. Slogging is not the solution at the final time. Take proper rest and stay fresh.
Study in groups
Another smart way to efficiently revise the syllabus is to study in groups. Interact with your friends and decide on a topic that you are going to revise. It is often seen that group study helps students to study well, but in less time. In this way, you may understand some finer nuances of the subject as well which will be helpful in the wee hours of the examination.
Practice lot of question papers
One very good way of revising is to solve previous year’s papers. Books with last twenty years of papers are available in the market. Try to solve as many of them in strict examination condition. Also, you may try to solve sample practice papers in the given time limit. Remember that time management is very important in JEE examination. For this, the only solution is practice.
Try to remember the most common expressions and constants
This actually helps. Some of the expressions and their values should be on your finger tips. Constants like Avogadro number, Universal Gas Constant in different Units, Boltzmann Constant etc are common in the problems appearing in JEE examination. Decimal values of common fractions such as 3/8, ¼, 22/7 etc should be remembered. These expressions and numbers are favorites of the question paper setter.
Once again – revision is important
One thing you cannot escape is revision. That is why we are stressing again and again on this. The advantages of a proper revision are:
- Repeated revision will help you to increase your problem solving speed.
- This will help you to overcome examination fear.
- You will get a good image of your strong and weak areas.
Talk, if required
It is obvious that you will be nervous before the examination. Speak your heart and mind out to your seniors and parents. The motivation at this time really helps. Also, it helps you to relax a bit and refocus on your studies.
Final point – be prepared mentally
The final point in the whole curriculum is to keep yourself mentally motivated, always. Problems are bound to come but the key to success lies in the fact as to how you keep yourself motivated. Prepare well, have faith in yourself and keep yourself motivated always.
