The Indian auto industry witnessed positive sales growth in July 2016. Good monsoons this year and rising positive buying sentiments of the customers have ensured that the popular car models of the country’s domestic car market witness great sales growth in the last month. As usual, India’s largest auto maker, Maruti Suzuki recorded great sales growth rate last month. Moreover, it said that it witnessed the highest ever monthly sales growth in the month of July 2016 in the domestic car market ever since the company’s inception.
Maruti Suzuki registered a sales growth of growth of 12.7 percent by managing to sell 137,116 vehicles last month as compared against the sale of 121,712 vehicles in the month of July 2015. This sales figure includes the 125,778 vehicles sales in the Indian domestic market as well as the 11,338 vehicles that were exported to overseas markets. The Indo-Japanese car major has announced that this is the company’s highest ever sales growth rate in a month in the Indian domestic car market.
It is not needed to mention that as usual, the top 10 selling car models list is again completely dominated by Maruti Suzuki products. The company has a whopping 7 models in the top 10 selling cars list of July 2010, while the top 4 positions are occupied with Maruti cars.
While July 2016 has been a wonderful month for Maruti Suzuki as it said it experienced the highest ever monthly sales, the company’s arch rival and India’s second largest auto company Hyundai Motor India also witnessed great sales growth. Hyundai’s sales growth rate in the last month was slightly higher than Maruti Suzuki. The South Korean car major registered 12.9 percent growth in its entire sales last month. The top selling car models to make to the top 10 cars’ list from the house of Hyundai are the usual Grand i10 and Elite i20.
Apart the familiar Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai car models, no other top car makers of India made it to top 10 car list in July. So you don’t get to see any models from Mahindra & Mahindra, Honda Cars India, Tata Motors or even Toyota Kirloskar Motor in the list, even though the new Tata Tiago and the new generation Toyota Innova Crysta are massive hits. The Indica successor, Tata Tiago compact hatchback managed to finish at the 11th position just outside the top 10 cars’ list.
However, the surprise element is the Renault Kwid hatchback, as the Renault India is the only other car maker to make to the top cars list in July this year with the singular massive popularity of its very smart offering the entry level Kwid hatchback.
Although we have been talking about the top 10 cars in the month of July 2016 in the car market of India, we will take a look at only the top 5 selling car models last month.
Here’s a look at the top 5 car models in India in July 2016:
Maruti Suzuki Alto
No matter what happens and how many new dashing cars come in the Indian car market, nothing seems to beat the ever-popular and apparently ever green Maruti Alto. The Maruti Suzuki Alto entry level hatchback model sold a whopping 19,844 units last month. With a humongous monthly sales figure that is little shy of 20,000, the small car’s massive appeal to the Indian car buyers is easily apprehended. The Alto came in as the replacement model of the iconic Maruti 800, and went on to win the hearts of the Indian car buyers in a bigger way and strongly maintaining its position as India’s top selling car for well over a decade.
Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire
This one is another all-time favorite from the house of Maruti Suzuki, the DZire sold a total 19,229 in the month of July this year. The Maruti Suzuki DZire is the booted version of the Swift hatchback and the most popular compact sedan model in the country despite the advent of several dashing and loaded new sub-4-meter compact sedan models. The Swift DZire even overtook the sales of the Alto in some months to become India’s leading car model, although the top car’s title is persistently held by the Alto.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
As already mentioned above, the top 4 positions in the top 10 cars’ list are usually always occupied by Maruti cars. This time around, the Wagon R compact hatchback has gained the hot third position in the list by selling 15,207 units last month. The Maruti Wagon R usually occupies the 4th position in the list. This car’s demands and popularity also seem to be unending. Ever since the Wagon R compact hatchback was launched in India, its tall boy design and spacious interior won over the Indian car buyers, and the love for the Maruti hatchback continues.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
Another massively popular compact hatchback model from the house of Maruti Suzuki, although the Swift is much more premium than the entry-level Alto and Wagon R. The Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback model in the month of July 2016 managed to get a total of 13,934 takers in order to grab the coveted 4th place in the top cars’ list in India. The Swift has been rightly popular for very long time for its good looks, features, reliability and good performance despite being affordably priced, and the car used to and still beats cars much more premium than it in terms of sales and popularity.
Hyundai Grand i10
Here, we finally have a car to talk about that is not from Maruti Suzuki. The Hyundai Grand i10 managed to sell 11,961 units in the month of July this year to get the 5th position that is up from its 6th position in the same month in July 2015. The Hyundai Grand i10 is the new-gen i10 compact hatchback which first launched in India in late 2013 ahead of any other global market. Ever since, the hatch has remained unbeatable in terms of popularity and has been consistent in gaining a position in the coveted list.
