Treating Ulcers Without Medication—What are Your Options?

Ulcers are relatively common, and they can cause moderate to intense pain. They are most commonly caused by a buildup of bacteria in the stomach, but they can be caused by other factors that irritate or damage the stomach lining as well. Because stomach pain may be caused by numerous conditions, a medical diagnosis is essential as a first step. If you have already been diagnosed with an ulcer, your doctor may have prescribed a prescription medication. However, many people prefer to address health concerns naturally and without the use of medications that may have significant side effects and high price tags. There are a few natural ways to treat ulcers that you may try before filling your prescription.

Consume Healthy Foods

Many foods are loaded with antioxidants, which can reduce inflammation and help your body to heal naturally. Some of these include berries, grape juice, pomegranate juice, buckwheat and more. Flavonoids also have elements that can heal your stomach lining. Foods that are rich in flavonoids include blueberries, black beans, strawberries, peaches, celery and others. These should be included in your regular diet if you are coping with a painful ulcer.

Eliminate Aggravating Foods and Beverages

While increasing the healthy foods that promote healing, you should also eliminate foods that may irritate the lining of your stomach or that may feed the bacteria that causes ulcers. These may include alcoholic beverages and dairy products. Spice foods as well as fatty foods and garlic may also aggravate your health condition. After healing, you may prefer to consume these foods and drinks in moderation.

Reduce Stress

Stress does not cause ulcers, but it can magnify the symptoms and result in considerable discomfort. If you have a high-stress lifestyle or even if you have trouble managing moderate amounts of stress, identify effective ways to improve in these areas. For example, meditating regularly and getting a moderate amount of exercise throughout the week can be helpful.

Consider Medical Marijuana

Before using chemical prescription medications, ask your doctor about the benefits of medical marijuana as an alternative treatment. This is a natural solution that has many health benefits. It has anti-inflammatory benefits that can promote healing. It also is an effective way to manage anxiety, and it may even improve your diet.

The best approach is to address ulcers as soon as possible. Visit your doctor for a diagnosis if you are concerned about stomach pain or are dealing with other symptoms. Once you are diagnosed, you can explore these natural solutions for relief and even for preventive benefits going forward.
